Hello,
Recently, I was uploading a file attachment while listening to some music on my PC when it completely froze up. After manually restarting via the restart button, my Realtek RTL8139/810X PCI NIC is unable to obtain an IP address from my router. I have not changed any configuration settings, or made any other changes. All I did was restart my pc after it crashed. I have tried repairing the connection, and it doesn't work. I have tried connecting directly to my cable modem - still nothing. I have verified connectivity with another PC. I have tried installing updated drivers. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the NIC device with the new driver. I went to cmd prompt and entered "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt". I have done just about everything I can think of, and I'm still unable to acquire an IP adress. I have even manually assigned an IP address and it still won't work. I have no idea what is wrong or why the NIC has stopped working. The device itself shows no problems or errors in device manager. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!
Here is my ipconfig information incase it might be useful:

It did get a apipa. Can you config another computer with apia and try ping?
When you say a static is of no use you should have tried to explain more on why you say that didn't work.
Ideas in no order.
You can configure a loop back connector by cutting an old patch chord and make tx to rx. The link light on the card out to light up.
I'd take that card out of the system first from windows and then from the box. Might even move the card to another slot.
Consider a live linux cd and try that to test ms install.
Might have to take out tcp/ip and add back in.
You have not proven that your router is not the cause either nor the cable.

my router works with other PCs using the same cable on the same port and everything. The problem is definitely not the cable or router.
How can I uninstall and reinstall TCP/IP from Win XP? When I go to properties for the connection, "uninstall" is greyed out.
the NIC is on the motherboard - not a card. I can't physically take it out. I did try disabling, rebooting, and reenabling it in BIOS. It still didn't work.
Static IP - after entering a static IP, i was still unable to ping anything - even the router. The connection did show as "connected, firewalled" with a static IP (chosen from the range my router is set to assign), but I was still unable to connect to anything.
"It did get a apipa. Can you config another computer with apia and try ping? "
What is apia/apipa? What are you saying here?
I would really like to try reinstalling TCP/IP. I think that might fix it. I just don't know how with Windows XP. Can someone please tell me how to uninstall/reinstall TCP/IP protocol on Win XP SP2?
Thanks!

The ip number was assigned via automatic private ip address. XP told it to when a dhcp number was not received.
I'd get a Vector or Knoppix live CD and try it both dhcp and static. If works the you might try a system restore. No clear reason for your problems have been noted. The router may have the mac address blocked.
View logs in router for clues. View event viewer logs for clues too.

I know my router is not the problem. I even tried connecting directly to the modem, using more than one cable. I need to know how to reinstall TCP/IP protocol in Windows XP. If anyone knows how please tell me. I'm almost positive it's the TCP/IP that is corrupted.

Nevermind. I winsockxpfix.exe and it didn't work.
Now I'm really stumped. If this ISN'T hardware failure, someone PLEASE tell me. I am about to REFORMAT and REINSTALL XP!
I've even tried reinstalling motherboard drivers. I just don't know what else to do. HEEEELP!!

SUCCESS! It appears that it was indeed a hardware failure. I installed a NIC I pulled out of my old 98 machine and everything is working perfectly again. WOOHOO!
THANK YOU for all your help!
