Comment:
I've just acquired a Mentor ADSL-MR4C modem 4-port router as my ADSL connection goes live in 48 hours.
The setup instructions are quite clear, but I can't access the thing through my browser to set it up - I get the standard 'page not found' message.
Could it be something to do with the Belkin NIC that I installed? That shows an IP adress of 169.254.25.145 which I believe may be stopping my PC talking to the router (although all the 'connected' lights are on and the light for the port that it's connected to flashes irregularly).
Any (really detailed, as I know nothing about networks) advice would be appreciated as I've spent all weekend trying to set the modem up and it's driving me buggy...
Most DSL router's config page is at 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1
Your 169.x.x.x address is an automatic IP being assigned by Windows. Since the computer is on a different network, you won't be able to access the router. Go into the properties of your nic and manually assign 192.168.0.x (x being anything from 2 to 254) then try to access the router's config page.
