PC hang on opening network file

Most of my win2k pro system hangs whenever try to opening some office file on my winnt 4.0 file server. When I look up using the task manager, it shows that office application is not responding. Ending the process will cause debug to occur.
There are not problem wilth win98 systems. Only win2k system have this "funny' problem.

I tried changing my server NIC.... still doesn't work.
Anybody can help. I had even tried reinstalling the win2k(by replacing the file, nvr format), the problem still exist.
However, if I load a "fresh" win2k system, I dun encounter the problem.
PLS HELP!!!

It is a known issue. There is a fix for it on MS site, but I don't know the specifics. It has something to do with explorer wanting to search the entire folder in a strange way.
workaround: If you used IE to open the network share, it should work.
