hey I gots two computers hooked up to the net through a hub. My main computer connects to the net just fine.
The computer in question here cannot connect to the net but can still access the main comp (via ipx/spx). I dunno what to do. I've tried everything. I've tried:
changing user settings.
internet connection wizard.
editing tcp/ip settings.
clicking detect network settings on iexplore.
I dont know what happened to make everything stop working. It worked fine for me then someone else used it while I was doing something and POOF!!!!! It dont wanna work no more. So if anyone could help me out, It would be greatly appreciated.

in the network settings you need to set a DNS gateway for the internet to work. The pc with the internet connection will have a default ip of 192.168.0.1 so if you go onto the other pc and in the network properties and under the DNS tab put in that ip, this should help.

Do you have firewall installed on the host? If you do, you need to add the other computer to the 'local zone'. it will be 192.168.0.2 if you accept the default settings using ICS. Hope that helps.

This is what yu have to do:
1. Get a second ethernet card in the computer that you want to be a gateway. This compute will act as a router, but for free. You have the one connection to your isp, and the other to your hub
2. Set the tcp/ip properties of the second ethernet card to the ip address 198.162.0.1
This will designate it as the first ethernet connection on your inner lan.
3. Set the tcp/ip properties of the ethernet card in any other computers to 255.255.255.0 for the gateway, and to automatically get DNS from server.
4. Connect all cables to the hub, making sure that you don't use both uplink, and the one next to uplink, (for some may not apply)Everthing should work now. The computers that get access through the gateway may have trouble connecting directly to certain types of servers such as gaming and chat, as well as they will never be detectable outside of your inner network. All the computers should have internet access.
It sounds complicated, but if its not worth doing, buy a router.
Feel free to e-mail
