My friend and I are trying to share files over the internet using pc anywhere 8.0. We both have road runner high speed cable connections. Our ip address' are dynamically issued. When I try to connect to his machine using his ip address it times out. The only thing that I can think of that might cause this is the Linksys routers we both have. I forwarded the ports that pc anywhere says it uses to connect over the internet. I can not think of why this is happening. If anyone has any tips it would be much appreciated. thanks

You have to add firewall rules to allow incoming connection on that tcp port.

PcAnywhere uses two ports, 5632 (tcp) and 5632 (udp), so you would need to forward both of those on your router. I wasn't sure from your post if you forwarded both ports, so if you have just ignore this :)

Also...if all you're doing is filesharing you might consider using FTP instead. It's more versatile for sharing files, and there are plenty of free and shareware servers/clients out there.
