Hello, I am interested in setting up a wireless network for my PC and Mac.
Currently my PC is connected to the internet via a wireless router (ethernet connection) and my Mac is connected to the internet via the wireless router via Airport,
would it be possible to create a network between my mac and PC?

The first thing to check is your XP workgroup (Mac automatically detects windows networks) and then enable file sharing on both computers...
For mac go to System Preferences > Sharing > and all your file share options are in there !
For XP im not as sure. All my XP computers are XP Pro so I know the network options are slightly different. Maybe someone else in here can tell you more but I suggest Google.
