I recently bought a Playstation 3 and tried to get it online. After about a week of kicking and screaming, I finally managed to get an old router (Linksys BEFSR41) up and running. I've had the thing for a few years but could never figure out how to make the thing work properly.
Anywho, I finally got it to work. Only problem is now my internet speed is 25% if not 50% slower than it ever was.
I haven't been able to play my PS3 games online for more than 5 minutes without losing my connection to the servers.
On the PC end, web pages take a good 5-10 seconds to load. Watching videos online is painfully slow and requires tons of buffering. I usually get frustrated and just give up.
I was hoping somebody would have some suggestions and could at least steer me in the right direction.
By the way, I'm a network newbie so please keep it simple with the network language.
Oh and please don't mention any wireless networking. I don't even want to deal with it.
Thanks in advance!

1. need to know the playstation 3 ISP address.
2. need to know if you have cable internet or DSL internet connection.
3. need to know if you have a firewall program and what brand.
4. you will need to know your router IP address.
5. you need to know your computer IP address.
6. you need to know what your Internet Service Provider IP address.
without this info it is impossible to begin to figure your problem is and help you configure your router correctly.

I would recommend you start with a new router and not one that was suspect from the beginning.
Try running without ANY [windows and za] software firewalls and see if performance changes.
Try resetting the router to factory defaults.
Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search
