Ive two PC's both running windows XP pro and i want to network them both together. Ive installed the network cards and connected the crossover cable and so far so good. Problems arise when i come to share files and internet connection. Ive gone into my netoworks on the main machine and chose the option to share the internet, but still nothing on the 2nd PC. I also cant figure out how to share files between the two. Can someone help?

how bout the networking wizard? follow the instructions carefully and it wont let you down.

set the wizard on the pc with internet first.

but if you dont want to use the wizard and want to set them manually, i cannot help you, too complicated for me :)

Hey, I am having the same problem as you for the file sharing. There is some big bug in Windows XP that the (dumb) people at Microsoft didn't fix.

About the Internet Connection Sharing, make sure that the computer you want to share the connection with has Internet Connection Sharing installed or enabled. What Windows version is it?

Well, first of all, did U try right-clicking on whichever folder U want to share and choosing "sharing" (or something like that) and then enabling sharing? that should take care of the problem.

Also, make sure that the network cards are configured properly. Be sure to enable TCP/IP protocol on both cards, and enable the "file and printer sharing" service on both of them also. ANd make sure that both of them are in the same workgroup (they are all in the same workgroup by default)

And after U have done all this, U can access the files on the other computer by many ways, but the two easiest and most straightforward ways are: Go to the windows Find (start>>Find) and choose Computers or people. Then choose "a Computer on the network", then type in the name of the other computer and search.

Another way is to right-click on my computer, then choose "map network drive" and type in the following:

\\"name of the computer u want to access, without the quotes"\"Shared directory or folder on target computer (i.e: My documents, C...), also without quotes"

Now about the internet, I have never used the windows internet sharing feature, so I can't help U much there... I use WinGate to distribute the internet on my network.

Hope this helps :)

I had the same problem between Win 2000 (internet connection) and XP home (laptop). I solved it once I logged on to Win 98 with the same username and password I use for XP home on my laptop. Also try disabling XP firewalls on both computers. Mabe there are other ways but it worked for me and I gave up playing around. Let us know what fixed your problem.
