On our Windows 2000 network I want to create a folder that is password protected. It will be on a server which the "Everyone" group has full control of. Is there a way to put a password on one folder to restrict access?

Password protected shares were only in ME/9x.

You can consider encryption or more specific user assignments to the share to limit/control access.

There may be some third party software available to do folder passwords.

Are you ready for where Microsoft wants you to go today?

Thank you for the response. Whoever setup our system at work really wasn't thinking about the future. I'm slowly taking over everything to increase security and efficientness. Everyone has access to everything on the server, they just have to map a drive to access the information. Luckily most of the people in our organization are severely computer illiterate.

Why bother password-protecting something that everyone has access to? That holds no logic for me. I'd first revoke the Full Control for Everyone.

This really isn't a Networking question though. :)

just revoke acess and then give a group access to it.
so say a diectory holds finacial reports give a group called finace full or read only access and take off every one access.
then make all the users in the fiance team members of a group called finance.
so finace has access and any one else is locked out.
simple

The bad news my freind is this is a pen and paper excersize and its best to start at the begining and plan it all then implement. best thing is to learn how to use the permisons.

all text needs typos. There there for the reader to find,to distract them from the total lack of content.
google it! wasnt the answer to the question i asked so dont be dense and give me that repl
