Hello All
I hope you can help me
I am running winXP proff and have difficulty pasword protecting my shares. On my LAN threre are 3 Win 98SE machines, 2 Win XP
proff and One pocket Pc running WM 03. On the win 98 system its easy to set a password to a share but with xp I can either
allow "everybody" to access without any request for password from connecting systems or restrict it to a specific user.
Unfortunatly when I do this and try to access a share I get the access denied from the Win 98 SE, Win Xp and my wireless
network pocket Pc. No request for User name or password is made.
What I need is a simple way to protect shares on the XP systems by use of passwords as with the win 98 systems, if this is
possible
Thanks in advance

I've looked and haven't found it so. When you access the share on the XP machine, you have to be logged into the Win98 or any other Windows pc with the same username and password as an account on the XP pc that has rights to that share.
One way you can do it different is to setup an FTP server on the XP machine. Then use Internet Explorer on the other machines to access the FTP server using whatever logins you want to have access to whatever shares through the FTP server.
