hi! we have four pc's in a network using windows XP and sharing all folders. sometimes I found my personal files being access/edited and worst deleted!
I tried to follow Windows instruction on making a certain folder private. but then i couldn't highlight the "make the folder private" button and make changes. Any tips??
or instead of making a folder private, how can i just put a password on it?

Don't share all folders. You shouldn't anyway. Share only folders that are meant to be shared using simple shares.
Or, Right click on your folder and select Properties. Go to the Sharing tab and under Network Sharing, deselect "Allow network users to change my files" Or delselect "Share this folder on the network" and then the "Make this folder private" won't be greyed out.

There are also default "administrative" shares on the system. If you have an account with administrator priviledges, maybe you should think about changing your password. Maybe change it anyway, someone may be getting in that way.

thanks for the replies!
however, even if the "share this folder..." is not selected, the "make this folder private" is still greyed. I think it's been pre-set as a default.
by the way, my pc serves as the mainserver. and i am not sure of the account with administrator priviledges
