I have recently added a wireless router to my XP desktop and cable modem. My Vista laptop has wireless built in. I have no problems connecting to the internet with either. My problem is that when I try to access my desktop with the laptop I'm asked for a password to connect to the C drive. I've tried my laptop login, my desktop login and my router login, but just keep getting login unsuccessful. When trying the other way, I can see the shared laptop folders, and can even access and move files to and from the Public folder, but the other folders I have set for sharing come up with a dialouge box telling me I may not have permission and to contact the server admin. I also can't get my printer to show up on the laptop. Any help anyone can give me will be gratefully received....

Is the firewall blocking the connection? Turn it off to test it.

Try making both pc's part of the same workgroup.

Right click My Computer>Properties. Click on Computer Name tab and then change button.
