I changed the passive ftp ports on a 2003 server to 5100-5600 using guidelines I found on the internet. I forwarded 21 to my server and 5100-5600. I Get a logon screen when accessing it from outside the lan but if I put in the user and pwd I get a searchlight and a timeout error. If I ftp from the command promt I can log in using this user and pwd and access files and directories.
any suggestions to getting it work from the browser? I already checked use passive ftp.

I can much understund what u mean there but Did you try to add a new user and give him logon rights ? To access your server or router or whatever more you have there?
You try to add a new user , give rigths to him . Build policy and logonGreat Dragon

ok, I want to make an ftp site just so I can pull files down remotely from any pc but I have my router blocking most ports.
I :
1)changed the passive ftp ports on the server using an article I found on the web. I did this to limit the ports I had to open. The command was adsutil.vbs set /msftpsvc/passiveportrange "5500-5600"
2)My server has no wan address. I forwarded ports 21 and ports 5500-5600 to my lan address in the router.
3)ftp works from the outside in a command prompt. I put in the user and pwd and I can access the files.
4)I cannot access it from the outside with a browser. However I disabled anonymous login so I get a username and password field that pops up. I can enter the user and password but then I get the flashlight and the ftp site never comes up.
