hi guys, i just picked up an old US Robotics "COURIER HST DUAL STANDARD with ASL" modem at a garage sale for 50cents
it has a power button,2 rj-11(phone + line) and what seems to b a parallel port connection on the back
i have a cable to connect it to a parallel port but how do i get windows to recognize this modem or am i using the wrong type of port, ive never heard of a parallel port modem before and i cant find the manual anywhere for it

I want to use this modem (if possible to replace my internal 56k dial up modem if possible thx a lot

Its not a parallel port. If it is a female socket it is a 24 pin D type Serial port.

You need a serial cable with a 24 pin male connector one one end and a 9 pin female plug on the other. Or you can get a 9-24 pin adaptor.

Heh... there's a reason for that (and for the price - you were robbed)

That modem is likely older than you are - stick to your 56K, that external modem would be much slower

We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true

If you're happy running at 14.4K, fine then

'robbed' in the sense that the component is nearly worthless, but I suppose a high roller such as yourself can spare it.

At the very least, you've received 50ยข (maybe more) worth of education - you're no longer referring to it as a "parallel port modem" (heh) - odds are the adapter will cost more than the modem did

If you can find a use for it, hang onto it - I've got a collection of crappier ones (but I didn't have to buy them)
