I have been trying to connect 2 computers using a parallel cable. Unfortunately I have not been successful. I am using the direct connection wizard from windows, I set one as the host, the other as a guest. In theory they should be able detect eachother right? if not is there a particular networking protocol or client that I need install for this to work? Any help would be great.
I also would like to know how one would do connect 2 computers using a USB cable. It would be great if anyone could help me with this.
ThanksSooster

are you using 'laplink' cable not just plain parallel cable?
you can get usb to usb neworking adapter but it costs about $40.

Bud was telling you that a regular parallel cable will not work.
If you like tools and messing around with wires and connectors you can build your own cable with Radio Shack parts.
Otherwise, just go to your local computer store and tell them you want a cable to use for DIRECT CONNECT.

Use Network Adapters on both the computers.
Connect both of them with cross cable wire.
Define same workgroups for both the machines in Network Neighbourhood.
Define IP addresses for both the machines in the same range. For eg., 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2.
Restart the machines.
Share drives of each machines.
Map the drives of the other machines.
