Ok i am using a new Belkin N wireless Router.
I am not sure if it is the source of the problems, but when i am playing online games, if i leave the game unattended, it will lose connection in about 1 minute, and some of my msn messenger messages will not be sent or recieved.
It is as if i am having a packet loss, yet when i do the ping test for somethn such as myspace, recalled 1000 times, i got only 3 of them lost, which doesnt seem significant, and they werent all together.
When i ping test somethn like hotmail, everythn seems to get lost, i dunno why though...
Im sort of new to this thing, but it is rely causing a big headache.
At friends places, the wireless signal has no problems, so its not my computer.
I can get more information if needed. Thankyou

I really like a program called TCPOptimizer from speedguide.net It's under broadband tools.

Wireless is not the best medium, for gaming most especially. If you're an avid gamer, I highly recommend a wired connection.

Even if you're getting 100 Mbps bandwidth with N, it's still going to suffer with latency issues and lag compared to a wired solution.

As to what's going on, from what you said above it sounds to me like the issue is either your router, your modem, or your ISP.

Is your friend using the same ISP you do? If yes, then that's not likely the issue (although it still could be because chances are, you're on different segments).

I would start troubleshooting by using a wired connection. Then you could try removing the router and plugging the modem directly into your PC.

make sure in the nics properties that the power settings are not set for the system to "sleep" or shutdown the nic interface to conserve power.

Example of Oxymoron:

Person who is pro life and anti sex education.
Education is key to prevention. Prevent conception you prevent abortion.

Abstinence training clearly isn't working.
