Greetings! I have a home lan consisting of 3 pc's:
1.mandriva le 2005
2.same as above
3.win xpThey are networked, working fine where file and printer sharing are concerned (using Samba). However, in order to make it more secure, and since i don't need internet connection sharing (only one of them is connected to the internet, i don't even want the other two to realize there is a world outside the lan), i was wondering whether it would be possible to disable tcp/ip altogether from the pc's not connected to the internet, and use another protocol for file sharing instead (i was thinking Netbeui, though deprecated) preferably non-routing and easily configurable.
So my questions are, knowing that it is one of the linux pc's which accesses the internet and it would be the only one with tcp/ip installed:a. does linux support file and printer sharing using netbeui, so i could discard tcp/ip on the other pc's? (to the best of my knowledge samba relies exclusively on tcp/ip?...)
b. if not, what other protocols would be suitable?(providing ease of use and simplicity of configuration, as much as it is possible, are in order)
To sum it up, we're talking about a p2p lan, where the computers are interconnected via their nic's, and where only one of them (a linux one) is connected to the internet. It is not, and should not be, a server: all the pc's should be able to see each other's shares, i just want the other 2 computers on the lan to be invisible from the internet as well as not being able to communicate with it at all, for security reasons.
I would not like to invest in any further hardware to accomplish this, so the solution would have to be software based.
Any ideas?Your help would be very much appreciated!
Best regards
