I am trying to create a peer to peer network between my laptop(win 2k pro) and desktop(xp home). I ran the make new network connection wizards on both and was unable to get them to see each other. Help?!

yeah im trying to do (almost) the exact same but my laptop is winXP home and pc is win2kpro.
im learning as i go, but i have gotten this far.....

it can be done with an rj45 crossover cable peer to peer
theres a small list of things to do
-make sure they have different names
-make sure they are in the same workgroup
set the ip adresses (of the tcp/ip protocol) to 192.168.000.1
and 192.168.000.2
both subnet masks to 255.255.255.000
enable file sharing and print sharing on your chosen folders.
disable firewalls or set to trust

plug in the crossover cable and restart both machines

open up my network places and navigate to (i think) microsoft network and both/either machines should be there.

unfortunately, i have done this and my laptop (with firewall software disabled) is not 'seeing' my pc, but the pc can 'see' the laptop but cannot access it

yeah I'll try that. I'm doing a direct connection between the two with crossover cable to answer the person before with the first response. If you can help us both
