Hey everyone
The g/f and i are house sitting for her sister, and they have optus cable, i bought my Dlink 614+ Wireless Broadband router around (disconnected from my BPA connection at home) and am trying to set it up so it will share the optus cable connection so i can use it wirelessly on my laptop, and the g/f can use it on her laptop via a CAT5 lead (got about a 15 meter cable that follows me around the house).
I have read some other posts and websites, and followed what i could find which said to:
1. connect cable modem to ethernet adapter (i took my wireless card out and put my xircom realport in)
2. connect to the net
3. get the MAC of my card and DNS server
4. connect the router to the ethernet (removing cable modem)
5. log into the setup of the router
6. choose DHCP client option
7. clone MAC and make sure it is the same as my card
8. use whatever dns server i was on
9. save and restart
10. connect modem to router
11. check the status to make sure the ip is ok.
12. asta-lasagne, dont get any onya. it should work... BUT
IT DONT!!!
does anyone have a clue of how to do this???
if so could you please contact me via email on byrnesie17@hotmail.com

The probable MAC address you want is the one in your girl friend's sister's computer.
Since the service was probably installed with that computer.

tried that. still no juice. and all the things i have read are saying the last computer it was connected on. which was my laptop. i can connect it directly and still use it, but i want to be able to go through the router for wireless lan and so we can both use it at the same time...
Any thoughts?

DONT WORRY GUYS... GOT IT SORTED...
Stupid... Stupid... Stupid (smacking self on head)
i was putting gateway ip not DNS ip's in.

I use Charter and the MAC address they use is the one on the cable modem, when I bought one and returned the rented one I had to call in with the MAC of the new modem. So I can use any router that I hook to it. Try to set up the router as a DHCP client on the WAN side and DHCP server on the LAN side. Forget the MAC cloning. It is your own router so the ssid, channel, and type should already be right.
