opening ports

I have a linksys 4 port dsl router and my friend said that you can open up some ports to increas the speed that you download. I am using bit torrent and he sugested to open ports 6???-6???(i for get the ports spacificly)how do i open ports on the router?

If you have a Linksys router, you will want to go to http://192.168.1.1 I believe that should work. Then you type in your password. If you do not know the password, then it is probably the default ("admin") because you never changed it. Then you click on port forwarding and you fill in the ports to forward and what ip address to forward them to. It would be best if you have your network setup with static ips, so that your ip doesnt change and you will have to change the port forwarding settings.

It says this:
kazaa 1214/tcp KAZAA kazaa 1214/udp KAZAA
So open up 1214 on tcp AND udp.
