I am helping out a a local school, not up to speed with networking, but the system once ran from dish on roof and now they have telephone connection running from a router, back to the CAB, there are numerous switches, patch panels? the problem is, there is only three lights on the panel, when i remove cables to e.g. 1, the computer that works, two lights go off, if I disconnect the line from the router another pair of lights go off.
Samefro a third computer in another classroom Should there be a pair of lights for all connections.

There should be lights for all ACTIVE computer connections. No connection or no computer on means no lights.

Not sure what it is you are trying to accomplish removing and returning cables.
