WE just set up a network in our apartment and only 1 of the 3 computers can get internet. ive tried and can get internet on all three, but only one at a time. Our ISP gave us an IP address and all that, but putting that information into more than one computer will cause an IP conflict, but having the computers detect IP address automaticaly does not work. The router (linksys cable/dsl router) works and i am getting a positive connection on all computers. any help would be appriciated, thanks

The IP address your ISP gave you needs to go into the Router. The individual computers have no knowlege of this address nor do they need to. The router will then use NAT Network Address Translation to convert the IP address to an address on your LAN. You do have a LAN? If not you need one. Does your router have more than one network port? If it has more than one you need to plug each computer into the router with Cat 5 cable. If there is only one network connection you will need a hub or switch that each computer plugs into and a crossover cable from the hub/switch to the router. Or the hub/switch might have an uplink connection, in which case a straight through cable will do.
Run the network wizard to setup each computer to connect via the LAN. Each computer will then gets its IP address from the router via DHCP. What address it get depends on how the router is configured. It will probably be in the range 192.168.000.xxx. xxx Being from 1 to 255. or it could be 010.000.000.xxx.
If the computers do not detect IP address automatically, make sure that they are set to get IP address automatically. A re-boot my be necessary to get it to work, especially with Win98. You can set them manually but the address must correspond to the LAN address in the router and you will need to set the Gateway and DNS server address as well.

condensed version:
Put the ISP's provide ip address on the wan side of the router.
In LAN side of the router enable dhcp serving.
On each client pc set tcp/ip properties to dhcp.
reboot the pcs and confirm with ipconfig at a prompt that you are assigned a 192.x.x.x address as provided by the router.
No wizards required.
