(I posted this as a response to another thread, but its odl so im not sure anyone will see it, so sorry for double posting)

I have a similar problem. I have a linksys router and only one computer is working no matter how much I switch around the cables and no matter which of the 4 ports in the back I use.

On the computer that's not working, it says in network connections (I have XP) that it is connected. However, when I click on the LAN connection, it shows that I'm sending but not receiving any packets (this, and whatever I describe from hereon, is for both computers- remember, one works on the router, the other doesn't.)

By reading some message boards, I tried a packet test, and it said I was not losing any packets.

I noticed that when I click on the LAN connections and then go to the SUPPORT tab, the one that doesn't work is missing a default gateway address. It could be missing other things, I'm writing this without doing it hands on. But that stood out to me. The computer that was working had a default gateway address AS WELL AS AN ADDRESS TYPE ASSIGNED BY DHCP.

I've turned off firewalls and such, but that doesn't seem to have an affect because the computer the works with the router can have the windows firewall on and still work.

Any help would be appreciated,

Is TCP/IP set to obtain an IP address automatically? If so, go to a command prompt and type: ipconfig /release and press enter, then type: ipconfig /renew and press enter. See if that helps.

what is your ip address on the working machine? Reason I ask is it sounds like the router is in bridge mode and you are getting ip from the isp which means only one address.

Golly gee wilerkers everyone. Learn to Internet Search
