One computer gets the internet at a time

We have 2 computers (2k and win98), both using LinkSys network cards (one is version 4.1, the other 5) which has worked previously. One day, the internet just stopped working for one of the computers. The settings of both computers were exactly the same. I changed networked cards with a fresh new one out of the box, but that didnt work. Suddenly, the computer that had working internet didnt get the internet anymore and the one that didnt work worked. Since then, its just been switching back and forth randomly, about once a day. I got a new router and new cables between everything. The computer that doesnt have the internet says its ip is 192.168.1.101 and it can access the linksys router configuration (192.168.1.1). The computer with the internet can not access the linksys router, nor the other computer, and its ip is a normal, shaw-cable ip. How can both ocmputers have the internet at the same time. This seems like a very funky problem to me...

check both of your network cards are working properly, there IRQ is not conflinting, there ip addresses are properly given, needed protocols are installed.
