I have an old laptop. It's an ibm thinkpad. Pentium 266 with 80mb of ram. i was thinking about using it as a web server. Is it powerfull enough? Would it be too slow. It will only need to handle 1-2 connections at the same time.

Those specs are fine for a small web server.

For that Price range, i would use linux. Like Mandrake or redhat, or you could try freeBSD, with apache for your web server.
Good Luck!!!

Since your requirements are almost non-existent, you could get away with Windows98 and Apache. But I would run Mandrake, SuSE, or Redhat with Apache.

I want to host files (pictures, videos, and web pages) for my family to view. I'm going to hook the laptop up to my cable modem(through a router) and leave it on. Then family mebers can always view my files.
