Hi i have an odd SPEED problem, im connected directly thru highspeed ethernet internet in North Florida and i routinely test my speed at dslreports different locations at 300+k/s upload and download. however, FTP and IRC DCC transfers will NOT exceed 100k/s UPLOAD , is there any good reason? i just got a new NIC because of this, i just reinstalled SP2, and im getting a new ethernet wire out of frustration soon!

Save your money. If DSL reports show 300KBPS+ then it has to be the FTP/IRC servers your are downloading from. I get that too sometimes. I might hit a meg per sec on one and below 50 kbps on others.

agreed, there are tons of people on irc/ftp, that uses up quite a bit of bandwidth i am surprised at your DSL speed, my speed in indiana 800kbps+ it rarely goes below that

Most broadband services are asymetric. Your download is faster than the upload. This is to prevent their server from getting congested (and you from running a local server).

yes, it's often the case with home users. The upload sped is much less than the download speed. Also, note that FTP is often very slow, so don't be surprised if your speed drops below even 10KBPS. ( as was said by previous follow-ups )
