After periodically losing my DNS for short amounts of time I ran an ethereal packet capture and noticed some odd things. It seems like my PC is querying my DNS server with some odd requests. Upon some investigation I have discovered what is going on:

The PC is trying to resolve IP --> Hostname/Domain by using the ip-addr.arpa Domain. Evidently one can do a sort of reverse lookup on an IP address to resolve it to a Domain. However the IP addresses that are trying to be resolved are all internal (192.168.0.*) and obviously do not produce a valid response from our DNS server. These queries are non-stop and are clogging up my normal DNS requests.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

It is normal for a LAN`s computer to send a PTR request to your domain name server for Local addrress. A 192.168.0.ip-addr.arpa zone must be there on the server.

Not sure that you mean by "non stop". Failure to setup the local zone correctly could not cause a DNS flood situation.
