Comment: Hii all... i have two computers. I use internet on both of them, through LAN. Till now, on both of them internet was working fine. But now, on one of them, for no reason, the network wont come on. The lights of the adapter wont glow. It still says "network cable unplugged", on connecting the LAN cable. The adapter is working fine i think, coz its showing in the hardware profile, and it shows working properly. The LAN is also working fine, as its working on other PC. So what can be the reason? Anupam

Reply: (edit)What does IP config show? Have you tried a different network cable? Life is more painless for those who are brainless.

Reply: (edit)everything is alright.... all settings alright. Network cable is alright... as its working when connected to other PC. I had put the HDD of that computer into the other working one. But i dont think that should affect it. I just connected the HDD back... and the network card wont work now. Really, sometimes PCs just amaze me... hehehe...

Reply: (edit)If the network card is PCI, remove it from Device Manager then reboot. If it still doesn't work, turn off the machine and reseat the card or try it in another slot. Life is more painless for those who are brainless.

Reply: (edit)If that doesn't work, get another NIC and try it. Just because Device Manager says it's working ok doesn't mean it is. If you don't have a spare NIC handy, remove the one you know is working properly from the other PC and plug it into the one that is having the connection problems. If it works, problem solved, you have a bad NIC. If it doesn't work, report back and we can look at other possible causes.

Reply: (edit)Did you test your cable and it's associated ports? It is easy to make a loop back to test nics. An old patch cable would do. I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

Reply: (edit)The cable is alright... as its working on another PC. No issues about that. I uninstalled the NIC... reseated it in another PCI .... again installed... everything successful... but still the NIC is not working :(. Damn it... i fear its dead. But what can happen... no reason at all. It was working fine till now. Started PC after a few days.. and this came up. Cant understand what went wrong. How do you do loopback for testing. And i also dont have a old patch cable.. hehehe...

Reply: (edit)Lots can happen and equipment can and does fail for no particular reason. You need to try another NIC in that PC. Since your other PC's NIC is onboard, spend the $10 to $20 and buy a new one.
