To whom it may concern,
Currently, i'm using a null modem to transfer file from my desktop PC to notebbok via Direct Cable Connection. Recently, after typing the host name of my desktop PC, the connection is established but when i press "View Host" button, a new screen appear but it shows nothing inside the windows, even though i have shared my Drive C: in desktop PC.
Can you figure out what the problem is? I'm using Windows ME.Yours sincerely,
Peter

Hey Peter! got it figured out yet? well if not, I do have a couple questions that might help to trouble shoot..well, questions/comments.
First of all, If you're using a Direct Cable connection to share files, then wouldnt that by pass the null modem? Seeing how the connection is a DiRect connectio via your copper wires in your cables?
You also mentioned recently; was it working the way you wanted to earlier? did you change anything? like add a fire wall or some sort of INTERNET security? <-- its been my own experience that I've been able to share internet connections and had everything set up fine, except for the ONE thing, I cant see my shared files nor my work groups!! aaaarrrhgg!!!
Well, I did the usual, checking of protocols
Client for microsoft networks
Dial up adapter/ethernet adapters
TCP/IP protocol..they all checked out fine.. so what next? well, I kept trying and trying, and even went against my better judgement out of shear desperation.. well, to make a long story short..MY newly purchased fire wall was working perfectly!! and blocking ME out of MY computer, AND NOT only that! MY OWN computer blocked itself from seeing itself on the network
In order for me to correct this particular issue, I had to set my fire wall to allow not just my 2nd PC onto the network but on my 1st computer as well. I basicaly had to give the IP address of both computers and the SUBNET masks to the fire wall and tell the fire wall to nOT block those IPs and masks...just so ya know, If you only do ONE (in my circumstance) only one computer will have access to the NEtworktheres only about 2947598792754 other possibilities that could be going wrong, haha, so I hope this gets ya goin in the right direction.. if NOT.. eheh, bring it on!! and lets figure this out!!
PsYLanT

Well, i greatly thank you for sharing your perfect explanation and experience to me.
What you have told me might be correct, because recently i installed a firewall software into my PC and after two weeks, i uninstalled it as it gave me lots of hassle, whenever i try to download mp3 or software from internet. i never thought that this can affect the data transmission between PC and notbook using RS-232 cable. Since i have uninstalled the firewall, how can i trace back to reassign the default value which has been changed by the firewall?Peter
