hey, I have a quick noob question. I have a speedstream Modem and have it directly connected to my PC for the internet. I unplugged the Ethernet cable to test something out and now when I have replugged the cable back into the modem and to my PC it says I have limited or no Connection.
What do I have to do to get reconnected, How do I reassign a new IP and default gateway so I can get reconnected to the internet? Thanks

Just shut the modem and the PC. Restart the modem, wait until all the lights are on and then boot the PC. It probably just needs to be re-synched.

XP has a "repair" function that fixes that if you have the network icon on taskbar.
You can also do a ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew from command line.

hey I tried that guys but it wasn't working, when I do the repair feature it says limited or no connectivity, it wont assign me a default gateway but gives me an IP address and subnet.
I tried turning it off and on and it didn't seem to work but I wasn't plugged in at the time so I'll have to try that again but off hand how do I get it to assign me a default gateway? Thanks

If you're getting your TCP/IP information from your ISP via DHCP and you're not getting a gateway address, I would call your ISP about this issue.
