Hi
just had Ntl install their set top box tv/broad band, , pc is upstairs so decided to try wireless, im new to this.
bought the following
pc world (ok,i know) sold me
d-link air plus xtreme G dwl-2100AP
access point and Philips usb adapter
cpwua054,
1st issue the dlink access point doesnt connect to the internet via Ntl set top , is this because i need a gateway router?
to clone Mac address during ntl set up??.2nd issue are these two compatible has any one else found the radio strength is poor from the d link, (the philips usb has a scan function to detect access points and it never gets highe than 60% connection drops out, both are 30 ft apart 1 wall separating.
btw ntl help desk .... erm have no idea
any advice gratefully recieved
regards

As I presume you would have an RJ45 ethernet connection from the set top box to PC, you need to replace the PC with a Router downstairs.
I have found mains networking more reliable here in the UK:

Hi
thanks for the reply
Yes there is only 1 ethernet conection from the Ntl tv/bb box
i wasnt sure if i needed the router & of course pc world never mentioned it, i was
wondering why there was no wan port on the dlink access box only a lan port.even the dlink manual just shows the simplest connection procedure & dosnt mention a router,
i'll try for an exchange for a rf gateway router , or as you suggest use mains adapter.
cabling was so much easier.
regards
