I have a netgear router connected to a Motorola modem. I have a PC connected to the router. The internet works on the PC because I have it connected with cat5 line.
Internet connection is high speed through comcast.
I recently tried to connect wirelessly with a new laptop with bluetooth. I have tried the repair option and was give the nice message that the laptop could not renew the IP address. I am using windows wireless connect.
I ran the install disc for the router and it didn't change. I am at this point.
Do I need to install the modem software in the laptop?

You don't need to install modem software on labtop, however you need to configure the wireless setting on the router correctly, also you need to configure the wireless adapter to match the setting on router and connect to wireless network. This is a simple wireless network setup tutorial, take a look if you like..
