Subject: Not enough server storage available

Subject: Not enough server storage available
OS: vista
CPU/Ram: Intel Core 2 Duo/2 GB Ram
Model/Manufacturer: dell xps 410
Comment:
System specs are:

Intel core 2 Duo Processor E6300
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 2DIMMs
640GB Preformance RAID 0 (2 x 320 GB SATA 3Gb/s 7200 RPM HDDs)

I have 2 computers attached to the internet on a wireless-G router, the vista computer (described above) hard-wired in and the XP running wireless. Now I have a need to share files located on the XP. I am able to "see" (from the vista)the list of folders that I have set up to share, but when I click on any of these to see the files within, I get a message saying:

"//Server/XXXX is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

Not enough server storage is available to process this command."

Any ideas of how to fix this would be greatly appreciated! thanks.

I have yet to do much with Vista/XP networking, so I don't really know what I'm talking about. But you might get things up by running this command on the XP machine:
net user guest /active:yes

640GB Preformance RAID 0 (2 x 320 GB SATA 3Gb/s 7200 RPM HDDs)

I couldn't help but notice the above. You do realize that a RAID 0 offers no redundancy and should either drive fail, you lose all data on both drives? I hope you have some real good backups because if you don't, you're asking for a world of hurt.

If you don't mind a recommendation, I'd recommend you get a 3'd drive and at the very least create a RAID 5. At least that way you would have some redundancy and a drive failure isn't the end of the world.

"//Server/XXXX is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

This is usually a permissions issue. To avoid it, create a user account on the target PC (the one you wish to connect to) for the other PC. Use the exact same username/password you use to logon to the other computer at bootup. Add the new account to the ACL's of the shares you wish to connect to and you should then have no trouble connecting.

Not enough server storage is available to process this command

I've never seen this associated with the permissions error message. I suggest you check to see how much free space you have on the other PC. If you're running low, you have problems (bigger than you know since you're running a RAID 0). If you're not running low, then do what I said above and see if that error message doesn't go away when you're able to properly connect to your shares.

At first glance I'd guess a permission issue. Some user quota or password issue.

Try to map the drive/share and see if that works.

Some posts seem to suggest a registry edit but I'd use that at the very last. Other suggest maybe a personal firewall such as norton or mcaffee (really any good firewall) not being set correctly

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.
