Ok, I am in real need of help.
I have Comcast High Speed for a provider.A friend of mine (about 6 months ago) hooked up my network for me (two desktops...not wireless). It just so happens that this is an area of technology I know absolutely nothing about.
Ok, so about a month ago my living room computer's monitor died. I brought the monitor from my room out so my roommate would be able to use the internet. A couple of days later I brought my monitor back in to my room, and no internet in my room!! I checked my connections, etc. Everything's connected. The only other thing that I did was turn off the power strip that my computer was on since I wouldn't be using the system. Another friend said that might have reset something? Honestly, I don't have a clue. The friend that set up my network moved away, and I don't have anyone to help me.
I've been reading a few of the posts that looked related, but they didn't end up being the same issue. My lack of knowledge on the subject is great, but I have been able to pick up that it's normal to show the ipconfig results.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Here's the ipconfig info for my computer:
Bedroom Computer
ipconfig/all
Windows IP Configuration
HOST NAME: anicee
Primary DNS Suffix:
Node Type: Unknown
IP Routing Enabled: No
WINS Proxy Enabled: No
DNS Suffix Search List: hsd1.or.comcast.netEthernet Adapter Local Area Connection 2
Connection-Specific DNS Suffix: hsd1.or.comcast.net
Description: Intel(r) PRO/100 VE Network Connection
Physical Address: 00-16-76-c1-67-b8
Dhcp: Enabled: Yes
Auto Configuration Enabled: Yes
IP Address: 192.168.1.101
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server: 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers: 68.87.69.146
68.87.85.98
68.87.78.130Lease Obtained: Saturday August 9th, 10:48am
Lease Expired: Sunday August 10th, 10:48am

Everything looks fine from the IP Config information.
192.168.1.101 is the IP address of your computer.
192.168.1. is the IP address of your router.
Bring up your favourtite Web Browser and enter the address http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar. This should bring up your routers configuration screen. If you can get this far the routers diagnostic screen should give you some indication of why you are not getting connected.
You may get asked for a password and user name. You will get the default password and user name from the routers manual providing your friend didn't change it.

Ok, I did that, and to the best of my limited knowledge everything looks alright.
However, I did some reading here last night, and decided to try disabling my firewall on my computer (zonealarm). When I did that I got the internet back. When I turned it on again I lost the internet again.
So here's my new question (now that I know that the connection is technically there)...
How do I put the firewall up without losing my connection?
I am sorry if this has been answered a zillion times, but I haven't figured it out.
Any help provided would be greatly appreciated.

In Zone Alarm there is a setting to put network 192.168.1.xxx in the trusted Zone. If it is in the Internet Zone it wont work.

Ok, so I did as you suggested. I found the entry with the "192.168.1.xxx." I changed it from Internet to Trusted. It STILL wouldn't work...the only way that it ended up working is when I changed my ZoneAlarm settings from High to Medium. SO I am currently on my computer, but my security setting is lower.
Just curious as to why I had to do that, or if there is a way around that so that I can increase my security settings again?
I have never had this problem before, and am stumped as to what caused it.
