Hi, i am just a simple cave man looking for answers. basically, my roomate and i want to use the same cable modem/IP address. we have so far determined that we will need a wireless router, but the rest we're clueless

I have win2k service pack3/ 1.5mhz / 512 ram he has win xp pro, 2.4/ 1g ram.

we're thinkin my comp will plug into router, and his will use a wireless connection to the router. we only want to have one eternal ip address, obvously, what we need to know is, how to set it all up, programming wise and stuff, i've tried looking at a few web sights, but i simply come off confused :(

i will not be insulted if you use simple caveman terms

thanks in advaced

Look through the Linksys.com web site.

All you will need is a wi-fi router, an ethernet cable or two. (I assume your machine has an eithernet adapter built in.) To use the wi-fi he will need a wi-fi adapter card.

You have the older 802.11b (cheaper, works well up to 100 feet) and the new 802.11g (faster wi-fi, almost works, longer range).

Set up is simple. Windows comes ethernet ready, so plugging in the router with cable is almost just Plug and Play. The wi-fi part will require a little setup and reading.

On the Linksys.com web site, go to the product support pages, select the router(s) of choice and locate the link to the Users Guide. Its a PDF file. Read through it to get an idea of what it takes to set it up and what can be done with one.
