No WiFi Detection in area with stro

Dell / Dimension 4500s
March 6, 2009 at 08:04:40
Specs: windows xp, 1.8GB/256
Computer is 7-8 year old Dell w Windows

xp. Tried first a linksys wusb600n adapter, (No
router), and could not detect any WiFi. (Signal
strong into my mac, sitting right next to it)

Reinstalled seven times, no help. Exchanged the
linksys to a D-Link. It won't see any wifi either.

Help. MY getting a job depends on being able to
take the PC online.

Failing all that, is there a way to share the Mac's

 WiFi connection to the Internet?

There is no reason to reinstall, especially 7 times, because you are having trouble with wifi.

Go to the device manager and make sure that the drivers are installed correctly.

Are you trying to use your own connection through wifi or any available network?

I reinstalled so many times because the various "tech" services I tried told me to. Anyway, I have the adapter plugged directly into the usb on the computer, and am trying to go to the wifi from there. No intermediate stuff. My Mac picks the Wifi up just fine. (W an airport extreme)

Are you sure the USB port works?

Yes. The adapter even blinks as if working properly. No radio
detection is the problem.
