I can also print to the printer through the print server and get online both ways,I can get online fine from my home PC local attached to the same router just fine, however, but when I try to ping the router it timeouts even as I can get online. I cannot ping or print from the PC to Print server also.Runing Xp home on PC and XP pro on laptop.

First, check all your TCP/IP settings on the PC. You may have something messed up like the Gateway Address.

Go to the Command Prompt and type in
IPCONFIG
This will give the "gateway address" for the PC, which is your router's internal IP Address. If you can't ping this address from the command prompt:
PING <ip address, usually 192.168.0.1>
then either the router is set not to respond to pings or you have a firewall that's filtering pings. Try pinging the other PC at its IP address or some IP address out on the Internet; see if you get a response.
