No permission to access workgroup

I have set up 2 xp computers to access the internet thru a dsl modem and a linksys 4 port router. The internet connection for both pc's works fine no issue there. The problem I have is I have created a workgroup so I can file share between the two pc's. I can see the workgroup in the network connections section of both pc's but when I try to access the workgroup I get an error stating "I do not have permission to access this workgroup" and "to see administrator" I have used ipconfig to view, remove and renew the ip's but nothing works. I have tcp/ip , netbeui, file and print sharing and all the settings correct and there is no firewall software on either pc that includes the firewall that xp has in ICS. Is it possible the routers firewall is effecting the connection?? I know I must be overlooking something but I don't know what. Any help would be appreciated.
If you are using a router, your computers won't show up in the same "neighborhood". Routers work at layer 3, the NetBEUI names you're using are layer 2. I know this post is pretty old, so I don't know if this will help, but I hope it does!
