Specs: Windows 7

i have a problem with my network adapter. i have successfully reformatted our desktop computer. I was able to connect to the internet for a week but after that, when i tried to connect again, it says that i do not have any network adapter and that i should install one.

i tried to look at my device manager, there was no network adapter in my devices. i tried to install a realtek adapter but still nothing happened. i even tried reinstalling my os but it wont read by dvd.

also, i have a laptop, but the internet connection is working properly there.

can anyone please help me.

thank you.

First, check in the BIOS to ensure the device is enabled there. If it isn't, enable it.

If it is, check online for newer drivers for the device and if there are some, try using those.

If neither works, it's entirely possible your network interface has failed and you'll have to buy a new one and install it in an expansion slot.

Sounds like you forgot to install the drivers for your laptop.

Mostly there are drivers for the following devices, that have to be installed:
AHCI controller driver
Audio driver
Bluetooth driver
Cardreader driver
Chipset drivers (very necessary)
LAN driver (for the network card)
Wireless LAN driver (for the wireless network card)
Touchpad driver
VGA driver (for the graphics card)

If you don't have installed these drivers, do as suggested by Curt R.
Download the latest drivers and install them.
Then reboot the system.

This should work for you.

What changed between the time you re-formatted the desktop and the NIC disappeared?
Why will the optic drive no longer read your install disk? Sounds like the motherboard may be having more than just one issue.
