hi all went to my sisters as she was having probs with pc , basically it was just not functioning right , so i did a factory default restore , came on great , except the internet , it says at bottom of screen connected but when you clcik on a web page it takes for ever and ever and then it doesnt load , now if i click on internet explorer it takes me to a page with packard bell on it but not http// in the address bar but c:windows , now a laptop is working fine from the belkin wireless/modem/router and i never did anything to that it just came on , both xp machines , just cant fathom why net wont come on main machine that belkin is connected to. all help much appreciated dave

We then need to discover how the settings in the laptop make it work. Does it have static IP address's or use dhcp from the router or might it need a logon script or program from the ISP. The ISP service is most likely the best place to start. They ususally have how to pages for basic setup. "Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

hi all , checked all setting on router and pc and even reset router to factory defaults and did all passwords and usernames again , now internet will not come on either main pc or laptop , thought min pc had a virus on it so i had to bring home as it would not let update software , put it on my internet connection and everything was great and i use the same modem/router a belkin , sop tok it back and plugged it in and nothing it takes ages saying finding wepage then just says cannot load page and i know that i have put all setting from provider in correctly as i phined them up for advice and i even called belkin and they said that they where pinging the router ok so there was not a problem there , all help much appreciated. dave
