Sometimes it could happen, that the mouse driver gets not loaded correctly and the mouse is not functioning.
In that case, you have to reboot the machine.
Mostly, after a second bootup, the mouse works fine.
So if the machine starts up into windows, but no mouse is there, simply use ALT+F4. This should bring up a windows, where you can choose to restart the computer.
