Hello everyone!

Quick question. Is there any way to connect this beautiful laptop to the Internet (or at least to another computer to transfer files) without either a modem or a network card?

I remember I did this a couple years ago with a parallel cable, but I have no idea how I did it. It was slow, but at least not as slow as floppies. XD

If I connect my microwave to my PC, will I be able to download food?

Does the laptop have a wireless card? you can use that with a wireless router, but you need to purchase one of those. How far away is the laptop from the computer with the internet connection?

Why can't I put a question here?

Wireless card? *Laughs* I couldn't find one on eBay for such old specs... :-/

I did buy a regular RJ45 card for it, but for some reason it doesn't fit on the slot. I probably got the wrong type of PCMCIA card.

*Fails at tech support*

And, well, it is a bit far, but I can relocate it if I need to.

Thanks!

With a parallel cable connection, you can only connect to a parallel modem or to another computer's parallel port for DCC transfers. (well, you MIGHT be able to do internet connection sharing through another PC)

Unfortunately, computers cannot get on the internet with telepathy alone =/

Well I'd just get a wired Router, and connect that to the modem, and connect the 2 computers to that router. Everything you need should be included on the router.

Why can't I put a question here?

SULFURIK, still trying IT as a hobby ? maybe skydiving without a parachute would be more fun ??

Yes you need either a Laplink Parallel Port Cable or a Serial Null-modem Cable, these are crossover cables and lots of info on the www.

Windows has Direct Cable Connection available, or you can boot from floppies on each pc/laptop and use software like (MS-DOS) Link Maven.

As an aside you Laptop DOES NOT support 32bit Cardbus PCMCIA Cards, you need older 16bit cards.

CMWGT:
Yes, internet connection sharing's what I'm trying to do.
(But the telepathy thing IS a good idea...)

Blademonkey626:
I already have a router. In fact, 2 of them. The thing is the laptop doesn't have a RJ45 to plug the router cable in.

Walter Mitty:
ROFL. No thanks, I'm no good at sports. :-P
But I'll look up the nulo'modems (coolest word ever) and then I'll report back.

Thanks all!

And about the cards... there goes another ten bucks...

If I connect my microwave to my PC, will I be able to download food?

File Maven is what you need, this is the Freeware DOS version you run after booting from floppies:

See help and support pages for direct connection.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305621

Can actually work with any win os.

Other apps allow serial to serial and with a special (read special) cable one could transfer usb to usb or firewire to firewire.

Any cheap usb to ethernet would work as above if this beautiful computer didn't have an ethernet card of some type.

Almost all newer nic's allow any cable. Unlikely you'd need a crossover, try a simple patch first.

For that matter a simple 2G flash is only $20.
I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

I got a 16-bit ethernet card. But I still need to do direct-cable to my other laptop, so thanks for the links. :-P

Thanks you all for your help!
