I have to PCs hooked up to a DLink router and usuallu have no problems except for today when I turned the PC on I get no IP address. I reset teh cable modem and router. I've also installed drivers for the router but it doesn't work. Only when I hook up the cable directly to the cable modem to I get an IP address and thus can connect to the internet...anyone know why this happening all of a sudden? I also get 2 flashing amber lights on my router. Thanks in advance

does the manual say what the flashing lights mean? Or the Dlink website?

oceania, Well once you reset the router you have to reconfigure it again. Once you reconfigure it enable Dhcp server on your router and give the default gateway 192.168.1.1 etc. Once you done configure default gateway and start it from 192.168.1.2 etc.. and enable 245 users etc. I think blinking light means you were net getting signal from your cable modem if you have comcast iam pretty sure you have to reset modem too........
Thanks

If you can connect to the Internet directly through your cable modem then the router may have failed or the cable may not be securely inserted. Check the cable first and make sure it's not loose. Replace it and see if it starts working and check the connectors for dirt or grease that may be shorting them out. Clean (GENTLY) with a cotton swab and alcohol.

If you can talk to the router from a client that's a good sign; at least it's not fried. Make sure that the DHCP server is enabled and that you can ping 192.168.0.1 and 192.0.0.2. Check your setup with that recommended by your ISP.

If you can't get a signal back you are probably looking at buying a new one. Fortunately it's not all that expensive and some of the new ones out are quite nice, with built-in VPN networking and integral print servers for less than $100.

That should be, "192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2". Me bad.

The problem is when i type 192.168.0.1 I get a error message that it can't connect both when i'm connected to the cable modem directly or via the router. Not sure how to go about configuring it.
