When connecting the Laptop via LAN cable, you must disable the Wireless Network Card.

thanks for the reply. however i can access net using the LAN cable. when i try to access without the cable(putting the cable in the LAN port of wireless LAN) in the laptop through the wireless access point, pages cant be displayed. there is a problem in the access point settings for which internet is not coming in the laptop though its connected to access point and the access point is already connected to internet lan cable

I think anupam498 you are confused about your access point. I think you may think its a router. It's not.

You would be advised to review the documentation for your unit.

You can't connect to its only lan port with your laptop and expect to have internet. That lan port is only to connect the AP to the internet.

i am exactly using the product CWA 854 HT access point. i has a LAN port in the rare side. i put the LAN cable coming from my ISP(its a fiber cable without any modem or router in my side). all the 3 green lightes are on. now my laptop is accessing the wirless signal emitting from the wireless access point. normally i should have been able to browse internet as the internet cable is in the proper place. i know it requires some settings. what settings? in my first post i gave the specifications of my network in ipconfig/all when i put the LAN cable directly to my laptop.

the wirless access point settings ask for LAN settings which include ip address, subnet mask, default gateway,DNS, MAC address. i tried puting all these accroding to my network specifications? still i cant access internet. even i cant ping the ip address of the lan side(78.139.172.141). only i can ping the ip of the access point. how can i resolve?

Your network card must be configured with an IP address of the range of your internal access point IP address.
The gateway address at the Laptop must be the internal IP address of your access point.

E.g.:
If the internal IP address of the access point is 192.168.0.1, your Laptop must be configured as follows:
IP address: 192.168.0.x (where x is one of the range of 2 to 254)
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1 (IP address of the access point)
DNS: 192.168.0.1 (IP address of the access point)

Is the access point configured properly?
for the public interface of the access point you have to use this ip configuration:
ip add--78.139.172.141
subnet -255.255.255.0
default gate-78.139.172.1
DNS servers-213.157.196.30
213.157.196.31

ya. i configured like that. but in the DNS server only one ip address entry is allowed.even after that it fails. more importantly the other end of the cable is connected to a switch not a router, so the ip address 78.139..... is nt the LAN public interface, its my WAN ip. My ISP provide a unique WAN ip address for each computer which is also MAC address specific. do i need a router. ?

I wonder whatfor you have the CNET access point, when it's impossible to use it for connecting to the Internet.
The cable for the Internet must be plugged into the access point.
The access point needs to be configured with the appropiate IP settings.
The Laptop has to be configured to get connection to the access point via wireless network.

So several wireless connected Laptops would be able to surf the internet at the same time.

Is the Laptop configured to get IP address and DNS server automatically via DHCP?
If so, open a dos box and type IPCONFIG /ALL

Post the result.

But that's not, what I wanted you to do.
You should be connected to the access point via wireless (no cable at the Laptop) and do the IPCONFIG /ALL.

The wireless NIC should be configured to auto.
I guess, the problem must be in the configuration of the Access Point now.
Have you changed some other things in the settings of the Access Point.
I thing in factory default setting of the Access Point,
it get's the IP via DHCP from the ISP and your Laptop get's it's IP settings via DHCP from the Access Point (when wireless NIC of the Laptop is configured to auto).
And then, maybe it works.

when the NIC 's settings is auto it shows limited connectivity. the default ip of AP is 192.168.1.253. if i put a ip of this range in my notebooks wireless NIC it got connected without any limitation.if i set automatic becomes limited connectivity.there is a DHCP settings in the access point showing a range of ip.

That's normally no problem, bacause you should get an IP address out of that range.
Most Routers and Access Points do limit the range for the DHCP addresses.

do i need a cable router so that i can asign ip pf that range in the LAN part of the access point. my ISP has more limitation. they only provide net per computer basis which is MAC address related.

But tell me, how does the ISP know the MAC address of your Laptops wireless NIC?
And what happens, if you'll by a new Laptop and want to connect to the Internet. Do you have to call your ISP first, to tell them the new MAC address of the new Laptop. I thing you don't have to do that.

ya.. i have to do that else i can change the ip to my original LAN card which is activated by my NIC. in any laptop if i change the MAC address of the LAN card i can access internet and more interestingly the IP address is same (78.139.....) in every pc after changing the MAC address. they provide per computer basis.but in my access point i can change the MAC too. even after that nothing happens. is there anything related to DHCP?

I thought you got the access point from your ISP, to connect to the Internet.
So if there isn't any manual, ask the provider on how correctly configure the access point for your needs,
because at this stage I've no further idea.
