No internet on laptop.

March 29, 2009 at 07:20:41
Specs: Windows vista
I upgraded from a desktop to a laptop, took the broadband internet connection cable out from my desktop pc, connected it to my laptop & get the message internet explorer cannot open the page. Does the cable company have to get involved for me to get internet connection on my laptop? It's a temp thing... my new condo will have wireless internet :D.

The laptop isn't getting an IP address for some reason. Run ipconfig /all from a command prompt and post the results to be sure.

You might also want to verify that your network card is enabled. Open up the network connections, right-click the network adapter and see if the option to enable it is available. If so, enable it. By default it should then attempt to obtain an address from a DHCP server (unless it had been previously changed to a static IP).
