Hey Everyone,

I have a server that has 6 computers hooked up to it, they all require certain shares from this one server.

Right now the server has two NIC cards, one which is connected directy to the Cable modem the other (on-board) which runs to our switch. Everything was working fine until a about a week ago, when the intenet and shares, print shares etc stopped working. The cable company has replaced our modem last week. Could this be the problem?

From what I can see, the server is running DHCP, DNS and WINS <-(there is a old novel client). Right now when i try to restart the DHCP it says there is no rights authorize the server, so i authorized the server but it keeps saying its not authorized. It says DHCP is not running but all the comps have IP address that would be correct with the server?

Can anyone Shed some light on the Situation?

Let me know!

What Jefro means by that is the network cable from modem to server may have been connected from modem to switch instead.

I suspect the new "modem" also provides dhcp. Being plugged into the switch would give ips to all workstations. I further suspect because there is already a dhcp server [modem] the server knows this and and is preventing you from authorizing dhcp.

Solution would be to confirm modem to internet nic in the server connection. Moden should not be connected to your switch. You should also look at the tcp/ip properties of the servers internet facing nic to see if it has a static ip vs using dhcp.

reason I mention this is if the modem is now giving out ips in the CORRECT lan range, you will have a major problem connecting to the internet via the server. Internet nic and lan nic have to be in DIFFERENT ip subnets.

Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

Can you guys provide some easy steps to redo everything from scratch, meaning the DHCP and DNS? Should i logg into the modem and disable anything to do with DHCP etc?

Let me know.

Um did you see the suggestions above? Did you do them? Did you miss the point that this appears to be cabling config that is the issue? Is the server nic that connects to the modem set as static or as "auto assigned"? If auto assigned the last thing you want to do is disable dhcp on the modem.
