no internet icon / internet

up until sunday i had an icon an internet icon in the system tray and my internet connection showing up in the network places, now i have nothing. i am able to connect to the internet, but still no icon in the system tray or network connection. its visible on a laptop i have but not on mine? help is appreciated. thanks.

Right-click My Network Places, Properties, Right-Click on your Local Area Connection (Assuming of course that you're not using dial-up), Properties, Check the box that reads "Show icon on taskbar when connected."
It's not necessary to display the icon...just a matter of personal preference...

So you don't have the "My Network Places" icon on your desktop?
Try Control Panel, Network Connections, or Start, Settings, Network Connections.
