no internet connectivity

Specs: Windows XP
My in-laws have a computer that after they downloaded an update now has limited or no internet connectivity, they contacted their isp and after speaking with Verizon they were informed that their computer is operating with the wrong ip address, and that they needed to speak with their computer maker(HP in this case) they called hp and hp wants 90 bucks to reinstall their network adapter so the computer can find the correct ip address. Anyone have any ideas as a way to avoid the 90 dollar charge. Thanks in advance

I don't believe Verizon would say that. They're very helpful when it comes to attempting to get a client back online.

Open a command window and run ipconfig /all Post the results.
