Hi, I have a Win98SE computer on my home LAN. My setup is: DSL modem -> switch -> computers. However, this particular machine for some reason just will not connect to the internet. I have checked the IP, gateway, DNS..etc over and over again, tried different cables in my house (CAT5e), different port on the switch, a hub, new ethernet card, but nothing works. The switch port with this computer connected shows light for all three lights, but they do not blink (data sent and received). In Internet Options/Connections/LAN setting, all the boxes are not selected. When I open IE6, I get this green magnifying glass: Finding:www.......com, and in 20 seconds, I get the cannot find server message. What could be wrong? The machine worked fine til I moved it to a new spot. All suggestions would be appreciated, I will try anything...

You had it working....hmmmm. well try to take out the most obvious. Connect directly without the switch, run winipcfg and see if it can relase and renew. power down the modem and see if it connects then. change the slot the network card is on, try a usb device instead of the pci card (if possible) delete and recreate the tcpip stack, delete and recreate all your network connections, delete and recreate dial up networking from the add remove programs list. see if another pc can connect...setup the IE cooection, through tools...
