I have been having a strange problem with a IBM laptop. Firstly it had the no connectivity bug which i think i fixed, but now no IP addresses are being assigned in DHCP.

I have tried 2 different NIC's, and both worked when i ran a live Linux cd.

So the problem is within Windows, i have checked that the DHCP service is running and also tried static IP address which didn't work either.

I don't really want to re-install XP.

Disable the XP firewall and try again. If you have another firewall product, disable that and try again.
